General information on postnatal exercise
Postnatal exercise is a specially developed training program that aims to strengthen and regenerate the areas of the body that have been stressed by pregnancy and childbirth. After birth, it is important to specifically train the muscles of the pelvic floor, abdomen and back in order to prevent long-term effects such as incontinence or back pain.
The exercises help to gently mobilize and strengthen the body, which has a positive effect on your general well-being. They also stimulate the circulation and promote blood flow, which supports healing and recovery.
When should you start the recovery process?
You should generally start postnatal exercise around 6 to 8 weeks after birth, provided there are no complications. In the case of a Caesarean section or other medical conditions, the start time can be adjusted individually. It is important that you consult your midwife or doctor before starting postnatal exercise to ensure that your body is ready for training.
Costs & Reimbursement
Postnatal exercise is a service that is covered by most statutory health insurance companies, provided it is started within nine months after birth and completed within one year.
